Mission
There is little more powerful than working with one's hands. Whether drafting sewing patterns at the kitchen table or hand sewing clothing, I love using simple tools in expansive ways. Through classes, books, and other educational outreach projects, I hope to make manual skills more accessible, attainable, and empowering.
Bio
My name is Louisa. I am a maker, author, illustrator, educator, and (by day) technical designer. I recently became a mother, too, which now has a vital influence on everything I do.
I hold a B.A. in English from the University of Connecticut and an additional degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology, where I studied fashion design and patternmaking. I also studied patterndrafting at RISD and MassArt. For nearly a decade I have worked in the garment industry, most recently in technical design at Macy's and now Eileen Fisher.
